NEW YORK TIMES VIDEO JOURNALIST APPLICATION

REEL

A showreel of my work.

THE FIGHT FOR $15

I researched, filmed and edited this short video profiling two low-wage workers from Boston. This video featured as part of the Guardian’s coverage of the Fight for $15 campaign. An example of my work filmed and edited in a total of three days.

THINK DIFFERENTLY

Trasgender candidate Bharathi Kannamma ran in the 2014 Indian election, urging the electorate to “think differently” when deciding for whom to vote. I pitched this story to the Guardian who ran it as part of their 2014 Indian election coverage. Working with local fixers and translators, I researched, filmed and edited this video. Liaising with London-based assigning-editors, I filed my final edit from Kolkata, India.

DONALD TRUMP & THE FORGOTTEN WORKERS

I pitched this story to the Guardian in 2017. Workers at the Momentive chemical plant in Waterford, New York went on a 105 day strike over healthcare coverage. The dispute set them against Momentive’s owners including Donald Trump ‘jobs czar’, Stephen Schwarzman who is worth $11.1bn. I researched, filmed and edited this video.

PAKISTAN ELECTION

I filmed this interview with reporter Declan Walsh in London on the subject of the 2013 Pakistani election for the New York Times.

TAXI TO HAVANA

An example of a short teaser for sharing on social media to help build audience for a video I produced that was published by the Independent.

SALOON

A glimpse inside Indian barbers-shops that I researched, filmed and edited in New Delhi. While not strictly news-video, this lighthearted 3min short demonstrates that digital video can be compelling and fun while still providing viewers insight into the world around them.
